In addition to track and field club members also compete in various fell races throughout the north of england.  Fell shoes are advisable especially in wet conditions – talk to your coach.  Most fell races have events for aged 6 upwards, however check carefully and ask Paul if uncertain.  Youngsters must run in the correct age group even if they are capable of running the age group up.

BOFRA – these are traditional fell races often at village fetes and shows, many go back to Victorian times.  Typically short and steep, the adults usually run from the show field to the nearest hill top/trig point and back.  Very child friendly and a good day out.  The first event is at Sedbergh Gala on Saturday 12th May (watch out, adults run first!).  Details www.bofra.co.uk.  Membership is only required if you want to compete in the season long championship, entry on the day.

FRA – details on http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/.  Not all races have junior categories so check and as usual ask at the Club if uncertain.  A good start for the season would be Kildwick on Wednesday 16th May in the evening.

Others – there are some other fell races, often attached to events that aren’t Bofra champs or FRA races, some do appear in the Bofra calendar.  Of special note is Kilnsey Show which is on Tuesday 30th August 2012.  In my opinion this is a must do race for all ages over 12.  It is pre entry for adults but talk to Paul if interested to avoid complications!
