A lack of officials delayed the start of  track competition but this didn’t prevent the athletes fom putting on a memorable show on a pleasant day at Wilson’s Playing Fields. Several Pendle athletes were missing from the first fixture but replacements were drafted in and performed well for the club.

In the hurdles Sophie showed improvement and Kai managed to stay on his feet this time. Natrika brushed off the disappointment of the Lancs Champs and performed solidly – attempting (but alas failing this time) what would have been a 1.45PB in the HJ. Daemon, noticably had a smile on his face and jumped well (dad must have increased his pocket money).

All of Noel’s squad performed solidly with Matthew Dutton being my pick of the bunch.

From the sprints group I recall Joe running well and Spencer flying round the bend on the first leg of the relay but a special mention goes to Neng (I may be biased) as he put in a fantastic display of sprinting to win all the events he ran in.

I didn’t see many field events as I was a track official all meeting. I’d like to thank my new apprentice and think she’s now at the stage where she could manage by herself. Offers of help to perform as an official are always welcome as this eases the burden on everyone else.

Jordan had to goto hospital with a sore hip – let’s hope its nothing serious.

The last YAL meeting is 17th June at Bury- make yourself available and have a great day out.
