Trafford Medal Meeting 1 – Longford Park

Monday 1st April saw the start of the Trafford Medal Meetings.  As the
‘Runners’ were all away in Portugal training in hotter climes, Pendle
was represented by five hardy ‘Throwers’, Leah Hillman, Natrika
Wildman, Gregan Baker, Spencer Phelan and making her debut in the
throwing circle, Alex Baker.

It was a bitterly cold April day and the
Pendle supporters were all huddled under a bright coloured array of
blankets to watch our Throwers perform.

Leah gained a Gold medal in
Shot Putt, Discus and Javelin, a great performance with Gregan gaining
a Silver and 2 Bronze medals in the same events – not easy throwing
when your fingers resemble icicles !

Natrika threw the Javelin for the
first time in the U15’s gaining a commendable 5th place with a distance
almost identical to where she finished with the U13’s and finished 6th
in a big field of Long Jumpers – brilliant performance given the artic
conditions.

Spencer had a fantastic day gaining a Gold medal in the
Javelin and a Bronze medal in the Shot Putt.

Alex, finally, had a
great day coming 2nd in the Discus earning herself a Silver medal, 4th
in the Shot Putt and 6th in the Javelin and looks forward to improving
her distances as she gains in confidence.

All in all a superb day
seeing the Pendle Throwers gain 9 medals between them – well done
everyone.
