The Club is always open to new members of all ages from 7 upwards.  You need to be reasonably keen but the Club is open to all abilities.

Just turn up on a Monday or Wednesday at 7pm and ask for a club official.  All coaches are UK Athletics qualified and the Club is ClubMark accredited.

For existing Club members the better weather and lighter nights is a good time to ask your mates if they want to come down to the track.

The Club operates a number of squads, and athletes are allocated to the best one dependant on age and ability by the coaches and Club Secretary.

Young athlete group – have a go at everything with an emphasis on fun, typically aged 7 to 11 years old.  Bernard coaches on a Monday and Daemon on a Wednesday.

Intermediate squad – all disciplines ie sprint and endurance running, long jump, javelin and shot.  UK Athletics best practice is for athletes in this age group to compete in all disciplines, and this group is about learning to train and early competition.  Typically aged 10 to 14 years old.  Paul coaches on a Monday; there isn’t an intermediate group on a Wednesday.

Sprint squad – training to compete, and competing to win at 100m and 200m both flat and hurdles.  Typically aged 13 years upwards. Coached by David

Endurance squad –  training to compete, and competing to win at distances of 400m and above on track, cross country and fell.  typically aged 13 years upwards.  Coached by Noel.

Throws squad –  training to compete, and competing to win in shot put, javelin, discus and hammer.  Typically aged 13 years upwards,  Coached by Derek.

All Club members are encouraged to compete.  Sometimes athletes will be asked by the Club but many meetings are entry on day.  Ask your coach for suitable events for you.
