Saturday 22nd June 2013

Been a long
time coming but the results are in at last.  Not such a glorious day
weatherwise, we had torrential sideways rain with intermittent periods
of hot blasts of sunshine leading to a weird steaming track and a
blustery wind but our athletes spirits were not dampened! Cars were
brought to the track side and tents were battened down – well they
would have been if someone had remembered their tent pegs !!!

We had a
brilliant total of 23 new personal bests from the athletes who came and
braved the weather.  My athlete of the day was Laura Harvey who got
herself three personal bests in the 75m, 150m and the Long Jump –
fantastic Laura.

Athletes gaining 2 personal bests were Daemon
Metcalfe in the 80m Hurdles with a whopping jump of 5.12 in the Long
Jump, Matthew Thompson in the 300m and 200m, Sammy Taylor-Bolshaw for
his performances in the 100m and 200m, Saul Wilds in the Javelin and
200m, Kate Pritchard in the Shot Putt and 100m and Meisha Watson, who
was making her debut appearance for the Club,  in the Javelin and 800m
– well done to all of you.

Other personal best performances came from
Matthew Barnes in the 80m Hurdles, Luke Thompson in the 300m, Louis
Taylor-Bolshaw in the Javelin, Jamie Oldcorn in the 200m, Gregan Baker
in the Shot Putt, Natrika Wildman in the 200m, Amber Saunders in the
100m and Spencer Phelan with a massive PB in the Long Jump – .01 – but
hey – they all count !!

For the first time in a while we were able to
field a team of U15 girls for the relay – well done to Natrika, Kate,
Meisha and Leah – after much deliberation about who should wear who’s
spikes we managed to kit Leah out for the last leg which she ran
magnificently !

The U13 boys, Timmy, Jamie, Spencer and Saul ran a
great race and the U15 boys, Luke, Gregan, Sammy and Daemon also had a
great run.

Thank you to all the Track Officials from the Club who
stood out in the relentless rain  and boiling sun – Derek Butterworth,
Daemon Metcalfe, Denzil Metcalfe, Alison Phelan, Ryan Atkins and Philip
Taylor-Bolshaw – you all need a medal !

Thank you also to my office
assistants, Mary and Meisha, your help was much appreciated !

And
finally, thank you to Gregan Baker who lent his Size 9 shoes to Timmy
Barnes (Size 3) at the Shot Putt – at least he didn’t fall over !!
