Red Rose Cross Country League – Astley Park, Chorley

Saturday 19th
September, 2013

AWESOME ! – What an amazing representation of Pendle
Athletes at Chorley on Saturday, eight runners in the Under 15 Boys!

The weather was again kind for us, not really sure which way it was
going to go but turned into a fabulous sunny afternoon as all the boys
had another spontaneous game of football after they had done what they
came to do !

First to run, a newcomer to competing for the Club in
Cross Country, was Bethany Ashworth who, in the U11 girls, had an
amazing run finishing 20th in a field of 89 runners – well done Bethany
– we hope you enjoyed it enough to come and do it all again !

In the
U11 Boys, Matthew Maxfield came to run but due to parking difficulties
arrived just as the race was setting off but thank you Matthew for
trying and hope to see you at the next race.

Next run were the U13
Boys who ran the same race as Ruby in the U13 girls
Kai once again had
a fantastic run just missing out on first place but nevertheless gave a
commendable performance.  Timmy Barnes followed in 17th place with a
strong run with Harvey Van Geffen giving his all finishing 33rd out of
a field of 52 runners. Their team finished overall in 5th place – well
done.

Ruby once again had a great run in the U13 girls finishing in
5th place – fantastic running Ruby.

Now to the U15 Boys, a great
turnout of 8 boys in total, if only we could have had two teams !

Matthew Barnes led the field showing what a first class runner he is
with Thomas Marchant again hot on his heels.  Thomas made the final
killer climb of the race look like a stroll in the park !  Close behind
was Matthew Thompson having a commanding race finishing in 5th place
with Luke Thompson being hounded by an amazing run by Gregan Baker for
12th and 13th place respectively.

Next came Joe Lonsdale (19th) who
had a great race closely followed by Jacob Van Geffen (24th) and Harry
Schofield (26th).  Well done to all the U15 Boys – it was great to see
so many blue vests !

The U15 team finished once again in first place.

Our lone entry in the U17 Boys was James Marchant who had a fantastic
run finishing in 3rd place – brilliant running James.

For the first
time in a while we managed to field a Ladies team so well done to
Suzanne Schofield, Janet Barnes and Faye Holden for flying the flag for
Pendle – great running from all of you with Suzanne finishing in 73rd,
Janet in 102nd and Faye in 121st in a large field of runners.

Last but
not least was John Van Geffen in the Men’s Senior race.  He fought the
good fight putting in a great run finishing in 176th place in a massive
field having conquered the killer hill three times but maybe not with a
smile on his face !  Great running John – see you at the next race –
you did Pendle proud.

Next Cross Country is the first of the Mid Lancs
Series at Towneley Park, Burnley this next Saturday, 26th October.  We,
as a Club, have been asked to provide some Marshalls so if you are able
to assist at all please speak to Christine.

The next Red Rose fixture
is a Leverhulme Park, Bolton on Saturday 9th November.
