Hyndburn Athletic Club saw the Lancashire Athletic Association Combined Events Meeting taking place where we had representatives taking place in the Quadrathlons and U17 Men’s Octathlon. While I spent all day there on Saturday unfortunately I had to leave quite early on the Sunday to move on to Trafford.
The weekend was a day of two halves – Saturday was drizzly, cold, windy and we got wet ! Thank goodness for our new Pendle Gazebo for shelter. Sunday was beautiful and sunny, maybe not cracking the flags weather but a lot more pleasant that Saturday ( at least our Gazebo dried out !!)
On Saturday, Gregan Baker started his quest in the Octathlon where he got himself a PB in his Long Jump, Javelin, and completed the Discus and 400m sprint. Jamie Ashworth, year 4, competed in the Quadrathlon doing a 50m sprint, standing long jump, vortex howler throw and 600m – well done Jamie for finishing in 2nd place. Also, a relative newcomer to the Club, we had Imran competing in the year 6 Quadrathlon, with a smile on his face all day he threw himself wholeheartedly into the events – well done Imran.
On Sunday, Gregan completed the Octathlon in style winning his 1500m race, a PB in his High Jump, he survived the hurdles, a tad higher than last year! and competed in the shot. At the end of the weekend he has earned himself a place in the Lancashire team to go on to the NW Counties Combined Event at the end of June – brilliant Gregan. Also on Sunday we had Laura and Jack Harvey who took part in the Quadrathlon and are now experts at throwing ! Laura finished in 1st place and Jack in 2nd place. Lucas Robinson, competing for the first time in the Quadrathlon also finishing in 1st place and little Kasie Mitchell who embraced all the events and enjoyed the day. Well done to each and everyone of you – especially you little ones. Thank you to all the parents too who came and supported.
