BUZZING! – A fabulous day all in all.  We left the mizzly drizzly weather in East Lancashire and headed west to Litherland near Liverpool where we were met from the coach by a lovely sunny day although a tad breezy.

Twenty two competitors made the journey complete with gazebo and flag together with supporting families, in house photographers and enthusiasm abound.

Andy Higginbottom brought his daughter Kaitlin, complete with another welcome tub of fantastic cookies and she thoroughly enjoyed the day – thank you Kaitlin once again – I am sure your efforts contributed immensely to the 15 PB’s which were attributed to the day.

We had once again a willing band of helpers, thank you Sheila for your EDM skills, Daemon and Tim overseeing the High Jump, Faye with her starting skills and our two back up officials Noel and David.

Once everyone was settled in our camp and in the small stand, blankets and gloves duly supplied to the ones more chilled, proceedings began with Andy Higginbottom taking first place in the Hammer Throw along with a great PB – well done Andy, he went on to complete his day with some great throwing also in the Discus and Shot.

Leeroy came and put in a brilliant run in the 400 and completed his day with a fab discus shot.

Our final Senior Man was James Marchant who commanded the 1500m from the start – brilliant James.

On to our U17 Men – Joe Lonsdale, gaining in speed every meeting, got himself a fantastic PB in the 100m of 11.2, just got to reproduce this again at the Lancashire Champs or LancashireSchools to earn himself another place this year at English Schools – brilliant to watch Joe.  He also tried the 400m for the first time and finished in 1st place earning maximum points for the Club – superb Joe.

Luke Thompson got himself an equal PB in the 200m and finished in 3rd place in the 400m – great running Luke well done.

Matthew Thompson had a splendid run in the 800m finishing in 3rd place in a field of very competent runners – superb Matthew.

Matthew Barnes stormed the 400m finishing with a fantastic PB of 56.4 in a very fast race.

Quality running from Tiarnan Crorken who led the 1500m from the start finishing in an amazing 13 seconds ahead of team mates, Emerson James and Thomas Marchant who both had equally fantastic runs.

You are an immense squad of U17’s and you all showed your prowess today in a challenging period of your lives with your GCSEs taking place this week – superb effort to you all.

Not forgetting Daemon Metcalfe also starting his exam week – he had a brilliant jump of 5.72 finishing first in the Long Jump and equalled his PB in the High Jump also finishing first – well done Daemon.

Gregan Baker was buzzing today with his amazing PB of 5m in his Javelin – he seems to be finding his form after a difficult year from injury – superb Gregan.

Jamie Oldcorn for the U15 Boys gained himself two PB’s today in the 100m and 200m – fantastic Jamie for your first event this year – onwards and upwards – no pressure this year Jamie as you are a young U15 – just enjoy yourself.

Kai did what Kai does best and cruised round the 800m with yet another storming run finishing a comprehensive first and also finished first in the 400m in a fast field of runners with a great PB – quite outstanding.

Tim Barnes came and equalled his PB of 1.45 in the High Jump – great consistent jumping Tim.

Spencer Phelan for the U15 Boys had an incredible day finishing 2nd in the Shot with a PB, 2nd in the Discus and 1st in the Javelin increasing his PB to 37.69 – superb Spencer – and a PB in your unicycling !

Matthew Maxfield is my Athlete of the Day this week, feeling a little unsure after his first meeting at Trafford last week came and embraced the day.  He had a brilliant run in the 800m and gained himself his first PB – well done Matthew.  He also took part in the 200m and has recorded his first time in that event – something to build upon now Matthew – superb.

On to our ladies, Janet Barnes gained herself a PB in the Javelin – well done Janet – a bit more training and you will be hitting those double figures !

Leah Hillman gained another maximum points for the Club in her three throws – well done Leah.

Zoe Kidney made the journey for a whistle stop performance in the Javelin U15 girls before rushing back to a wedding – well done Zoe – finishing 6th out of 13 gaining valuable points for the ladies.

Ruby Schofield won her heat of the 200m gaining 5 points for the Club along with another 4 points in the 800m – great running Ruby – looking stronger each event – super.

Ella Atkins, like her brother, had another storming run in the 200m winning comprehensively with a great PB. She also put in a confident run in the 800m too, well done Ella.

Once again I am very proud of you all.  Pendle Men finished in 3rd place out of 7 this week which is fantastic to say we are such a small Club and the Pendle Ladies finished in 4th place out of 10 Clubs – an immense performance from our few ladies – looks like I may have to don my vest again !  If there are any more ladies willing to participate, see me or Christine at the Club.

The next Mid Lancs Meeting will take place at Lancaster on 4th July where we will once again be having a Coach.  I will collect numbers nearer the time.
