At the end of August there was an article saying that our two clubs were merging – they aren’t and I hope that a correction will be published shortly (the newspaper has already apologised to me).

The article was based on an email reporting the success of the joint Pendle/Burnley senior team in the Northern League T&F competition which was misinterpreted. We have joined forces for a couple of years in this one competition because both of us have small senior sections and the joint team has been sanctioned by England Athletics. In other areas we remain friendly local rivals.

Training continues throughout the year even though the main T&F season is almost completed. Coaches will suggest that some athletes take a rest at this time of year depending on how much the athlete trains and what competitions they are involved in. Please listen to them, take the time off and come back refreshed!

All squads continue at the track until October when some will move to Pendle Vale on Monday nights. We will publicise this move nearer to the time.

Make sure that you have the Cross Country dates in your diaries, fell races also continue although less frequently than during the summer. There are also sports hall competitions and we will advertise these when we have the dates.

Thanks to everyone for attending and helping on the day; in particular Club Secretary Christine who devoted a significant amount of time to making this event happen. The sunshine certainly helped and made a big change from the past 2 years.

Results are now on the results page and pendle open results 2010 -WEBSITE. A massive total of 9 meeting records were broken or equalled in the following events: U11G 75m, U11G LJ, SW HJ, U10B HJ, U10B 800m, SM SP, SM DT, SM TJ, SM HT. Of note is that the three senior men throws were by different people. Note: you need excel to view the results, but free excel viewers are available if you search for them.

DE photo were present and if you didn’t see the photos on the day they are on www.dephoto.biz under category: Athletics and Folder: Pendle. Many thanks to DE photo for a generous donation to the Club. Complimentary remarks were made by the photographers about the friendliness of the event so thanks to all the athletes and especially the officials.

The Club triumphed at the annual sports awards at the ACE Centre in Nelson. Jade Lord won Rising Star, David Parker won Coach of the Year and the Club came 2nd in Sports Club of the Year. Everyone enjoyed the Gala Dinner and we would like to thank the various sponsors particularly the Colne Times/Nelson Leader newspaper group. As was said at the awards ceremony if we want to continue having local sports coverage we need to keep on buying the newspaper.

Hopefully some photos to follow.

The dates are now available for the winter cross country season on http://www.midlancs.org.uk/. The heading has the wrong year so ignore that. Unfortunately for us the first race is in Barrow, not exactly close by.

Today at Darwen Gala Fell Race three of Pendle’s Fell Runners took part. Incorporated in this race was the 6th round of the English Junior Fell Championship and the Lancashire Fell Running Championship.

The first Pendle runners in action were Tiarnan Crorken and Thomas Marchant in the U12s race. What a race that turned out to be, with Tiarnan having a brilliant run, just to be edged out of 3rd place in to 4th boy overall and 2nd Lancashire boy. Then coming 12th boy and 5th Lancashire boy was Thomas ,with a good steady run and a strong down hill finish.

Now to the U14s race, and a new U14 Boy Lancashire Fell Running Champion to head back to the Pendle AC camp in the form of James Marchant. James had a superb race and got everything right, not going out to fast at the start and gradually picked his way through the field to finish strongly on what was a fast course coming in 5th boy and 1st Lancashire boy. He also managed to make it third race lucky and stay on two feet all the way round, the last two races he has fallen.

Another Ex Pendle runner still going great guns was Emma Spencer who is the 2010 Lancashire U16 Girl Fell Running Championship. Emma was also first U16 girl back in today’s race, well done Emma.

Well done to all three boys for today’s effort. They are also counters in the English Junior Fell Running Championships and their final positions have been confirmed.

Tiarnan Crorken came joint 6th in the U12 Boys Category

Thomas Marchant came in 12th also in the U12 Boys Category

James Marchant came in 8th position in the U14 Boys Category

Pendle AC as a club in FRA Junior Club Championship 2010 came 9th out of 57 clubs who took part. A fantastic achievement for Pendle AC and all the runners who have represented Pendle in this competition.

Richard Marchant

On Sunday 29th August there is the Mid Lancs Medal meeting. This is the final chance this season to compete in this friendly league. The meeting is open to everyone, don’t be put off by the “medal” bit. This refers to the fact that you need to have competed in previous meetings to qualify for a medal but anyone can enter on the day.

The final T&F event of the year is our open meeting on September 5th – get your entries in now! After this there are various other open meetings; ask your coach about them. Most are open to younger ages than can compete in Mid Lancs.

This weekend sees the fell runners competing at either the Lancs/FRA championship event at Darwen or the BOFRA event at Gargrave Show. I know that some younger members are planning an outing to Gargrave Show whilst the more experienced runners will be at Darwen, unfortunately I am away for the weekend.

The end of August sees endless fell running opportunities. See the BOFRA and FRA calendars for details but the families who normally enter Bofra type races will be at Reeth Show, Malham Show, possible Grasmere Sports, Hebden Sports, Kilnsey Show and possibly Muker Show. A well deserved rest is in order after that.
