Lancashire Cross Country Championships

Witton Park, Blackburn on Saturday 5th January 2013

Last Saturday a handful of Pendle Runners took part in the Lancashire Cross Country

Championships at Witton Park, Blackburn.

The weather was excellent and ideal for running – dry and not too cold but again was very muddy underfoot which made the going heavy.

Several Pendle members have been suffering over the Christmas period from the

‘Boomerang Bugs’ that have been wiping people out so our numbers were a little more depleted than normal.  We hope that everyone gets well soon!

Nevertheless we had some brilliant runs from the members who represented our Club last Saturday.

Alex Baker and Ella Atkins had excellent runs in a strong field of U11 Girls finishing 28th and 35th respectively – well done to you both for taking part.  Unfortunately Ruby had just returned from holiday so was unable to participate.

Our next race was the U13 Boys who were unfortunately lacking a fourth team member otherwise they would have been in a strong position for receiving a medal.

Kai Atkins, once again, ran strongly and finished in 11th position with Gregan Baker finishing in 18th and Timmy Barnes in 32nd place – well done to you all.

For the U15 Boys we had fantastic runs from Matthew Barnes and James Marchant who qualified in 5th and 6th position to run for the Lancashire XC team.  This will take place at Birmingham in March and will be televised by Sky – so – make sure you are watching !

Luke and Matthew Thompson had strong runs finishing in 24th and 26th respectively gaining the U15 Boys team the Silver Medal overall – well done to Matthew, James, Luke and Matthew – you deserved it.

Our next runners were the U7 Men. Our Pendle representatives were Darius Boardman and Josh Ingham. Both ran exceptionally well in the muddy conditions with Josh looking stronger after every race he does – well done Josh.

Anna Anderson ran in the senior women and had a brilliant running coming 12th.  Finally, Faye completed our line up coming home in 50th position in the Senior Women – well done Faye.

Our next Cross Country Fixture is next Saturday (12th January) which is a Mid Lancs Fixture at Hyndburn, Wilson Playing Fields – we hope to see all of you there.  Hopefully Thomas and Tiarnan will then be fully recovered!
