WELL DONE to our seven athletes who took part in the Lancashire Championships this last weekend at Blackburn.

The weather was scorching for a change which enhanced our athletes performances.

Starting with the youngest, U15 Girl, Gabija Safranaviciute, taking part in her first Lancashire Champtionships, put in a tremendous performance in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump earning herself PB’s in all three events – superb Gabija.

Alex Baker, for the U17 Women, became Lancashire Champion in all three of her events, Javelin, Shot and Discus, earning 3 Gold Medals and a PB in her Discus – fantastic throwing Alex

Zoe Kidney, now throwing for the U20 Women, had an amazing throw of 39.51m which was a PB, she became Lancashire Champion and threw the qualifying standard for the English Schools – brilliant Zoe.

For the Senior Women we had Anita Saunders, competing in the 100m and 200m and had fabulous runs gaining herself 2 Bronze medals.

I competed in the Hammer, Discus and Shot – no PB’s this time, not my best performances this weekend but I will keep practising !!!

For the Senior Men, Alan Plumb earned himself 2 Silver medals in Hammer and Shot and a Bronze medal in Discus – fantastic throwing as always Alan.

Andy Higginbottom competed for the first time this year earning himself a PB and Gold Medal in the Hammer and a Gold Medal in the Javelin – superb throwing Andy.

Special thanks go to Derek Butterworth who was our only official all weekend – he did a brilliant job on the field especially in the heat

Hopefully next year we can get a few more of our younger members taking part in the Championships – the day is no different to the regular fixtures only you get medals if you do well !! – so good luck to all you up and coming athletes at Pendle.
