With the rest of East Lancashire suffering from downpours, Pendle Athletes has a memorable day in a dry /sunny Blackpool.

This was the final Mid Lancs Track and Field event of the season and the lads (and Leah – Shot PB) came away with 26 medals. (results on Mid Lancs website). Gregan Baker and James Blackburn impressed in their events,  and with Spencer Phelan jumping a PB of 4.17m, Daemon jumping over 4m, Matthew Barnes running well in the 3k – it was a happy day out on the coast.

Well done everyone

Online entry here: http://www.ukforms.net/onlineforms/php/Applicant.php?EventID=1612.  Run on traffic free roads with chip timing.

Congratulations to Matthew Dutton, Matthew Barnes, Tiarnan Crorken and Thomas Marchant who all got pb’s tonight at Trafford AC open.  Matty Dutton got his pb in the 3km and the other three in the 1500m. All the boys had a great night over there while it was raining back in Pendle

Alan Plumb has extended his own Club record a bit further to 12.53 at the Mid lancs meeting in Preston.

Tonight starting at 1930.  Sophie started her throwing career at our Club and is still only 21 years old.  She broke her own GB record in the heats to qualify for the final.

Summer holidays may have started but athletics hasn’t stopped!

The Club continues to meet as normal throughout the school holidays apart from the August bank holiday Monday.  Please bear with us because various coaches are away and we will have to mix squads on the night depending on numbers.

On the track the main events are Mid Lancs league meetings on 11th and 25th August see www.midlancs.org.uk for details.  Don’t forget to put our own open meeting in your diaries – first Sunday in September  the 2nd.  All club athletes are encouraged to enter this event and it is great place to start track and field competition.

Fell running continues with at least two competitions most weeks.  Most club members compete in the Bofra races, and the next ones are at Cracoe on Sunday 22nd July and Ambleside Sports on Thursday 26th July.  Details are on www.bofra.co.uk.  Further races are in the FRA calendar.

Tuesday 7th August features the Brownlee run in Haworth, suitable for all runners, not just fell.  Starts with a race over the Bunny run course followed by watching the Olympic triathlon and some food.  Details on www.woodentops.org.uk.  Our top triathlete brothers cut their teeth on the woodentops races and all prizes are Brownlee memorabilia.

A nice sunny day for a change for the mid lancs meeting at Saltaire.  Richard Marchant has sent some good photographs:

The usual suspects turned up to this meeting. http://www.thepowerof10.info/results/resultslookup.aspx

Leah took Silver and Bronze in Javelin and Shot Put to prove yet again she is no doubt one of the best all round throwers in England for her particular age group.

Neng missed out of the final by one place – a week in Scotland seemed to have taken it’s toll on him, and Natrika had one of her off days in the LJ – 4.38m in finishing 11th.

Pendle AC’s Neng Wildman and Leah Hillman were representing Lancashire Schools at the annual English Schools event and both came away holding their heads high. Neng recorded a new PB of 23.15s in the Inter-Boys 200m and Leah finished 8th in a competition fielding the best Junior Girl’s Javelin throwers in England.

Leah and Neng both admitted to really enjoying the whole experience of being in the Lancashire squad and will be working hard in the next 12 months in an attempt to be reselected.

POST MEETING

Full results pendle open 2012 results

This was a record entry for this event, certainly in the past few years. Thanks for your forebearance if we were a bit stretched at times. Is this the Olympic effect?

We didn’t get time to thank all of the officials from other clubs who helped out today. Everyone is a volunteer and your commitment to athletics is much appreciated by all.

HELP NEEDED

We have a very large number of entries so are expecting a busy day on Sunday. The Club would really appreciate help from the parents of our athletes.

There are a number of jobs that need doing including helping with field events ( raking long jumpsuits etc), helping run the shop, taking refreshments to officials etc. We appreciate that everyone wants to watch their own child compete and can work around this.

Please email either paul (post@wycoller.com) or christine, or see either of upon the day.
ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED

The Club will be operating a tuck shop on Sunday. Please could Pendle parents bring along any food that we could sell. For those that bake, cakes would be really appreciated but otherwise crisps, fruit, sandwiches would all be great

Parking in front of the buildings is reserved for meeting officials and disabled athletes and parents. Main parking is past the track buildings on the right including at the end and below the track. Please do not park at the pub or block track entrances including the side entrance, which would be used to get an ambulance onto the track.

We will have a running order when all entries have been processed. However we run events back to back and cannot give timings even approximate ones. There is a track restriction regarding long throws and long jump, this means that long jump may be the last event to finish.

If an athlete has clashing track and field events please tell the field official and go to the track event. We will do our best to fit the field event in but cannot guarantee that you will get allow your throws or jumps. Obviously if the field event is your specialism you may choose to miss the track event.

On arrival please register and collect your numbers from the window on the track side of the building.

LATE ENTRIES!!!!!

Those of you who hand delivered late entries yesterday will have found out that I live well off the beaten track!  Sorry that I wasn’t at home but I was running up in the Lakes.

Entries close tomorrow 28th August.  However if you are panicking with bank holiday post etc then I am prepared to accept entries by email.  Please ensure that these have all of the details as on the paper form and post the entry and payment to me, but mark the paper form as having an email entry.

Email is post@wycoller.com.

We cannot accept entries on the day due to the workload.

This is a great meeting for anyone to start their athletics career being informal and friendly with events from U10 years upwards.

All Pendle Club members are encouraged to enter and compete in three different events.  It doesn’t matter if they aren’t your speciality, but do ensure that you have been shown how to jump, throw or hurdle safely beforehand.

Entries close on 28th August but enter as soon as possible and help me!  I’m very busy with my own races around that time, so the more than I can get entered in advance the better.

Forget about the burger and chips and enjoy a traditional Thai curry with your athletics. Everyone welcome.
