Neng put in a sound performance on his debut for Lancashire. Only 2 athletes ran under 12 seconds on a blustery day and he had to settle for a 12.15s 100m.

Leah again was in great form throwing over 30m on her second throw to win the javelin and a shot put of 10.32m, a new PB,  proved too good for her competitors on the day.

On the day Yorkshire had the strongest team but Lancashire proved strong in many of the events to finish second. (I think).

From the results its evident that Neng and Joe ran well, Alan Plumb came 2nd in the Hammer, and Spencer threw a PB in the Javelin.

We had season debutants Charles Hartley throwing for the first time and  Suzanne Blackburn strutting her stuff for 3Km and getting a noisy ovation at the finish.

Race of the day saw Pendles U17 800m men all achieve PB’s – well done Matthew and Noel!

And finally Underwood’s girl did it again winning her 3 throws and Gregan coming first in Javelin and Shot Put.

NB. Natrika came 4th from 21 girls competing in the Quadrathon at Sports City – only 1 more 800m to go Nat for this season. The event consists on 100m, Shot Put, Long Jump ad 800m and if anyone is interested for next year – please feel free to talk with me if you have any questions.

Former club member Sophie Hitchon has qualified for the Olympics in the hammer. Just short of her 21st birthday Sophie was also interviewed on the BBC and was obviously delighted.

Update – 29th June.  Sophie has also qualified for the final of the European Champs which is this Sunday

Congratulations to Leah and Neng on their selections to represent Lancashire Schools at the English Schools Athletic Association Track and Field Championships on 6th/7th July at Gateshead International Stadium.

Natrika has been selected to represent Lancashire in the Inter-County Multi Events competition at Crewe on 1st July.

Special thanks go to their coaches Derek and Dave for giving up their time, energy and patience in getting these athletes to the standard they are at today. (I won’t mention Derek’s surname as that may confuse the local press).

Good luck to all three of you – I’m sure you will do Pendle AC  proud.

Several of Pendle AC’s athletes were amongst the 18 competing today for Pendle Schools at it was that girl Leah Hillman who came back with a Lancashire title. She threw the English schools qualifying distance in the Javelin of 30m+.

The only other competitors to find a top 3 finish for Pendle were Nat and Neng – Nat finishing second by  jumping 4.37 just 6cms behind the winner, having to run into a strong headwind and Neng who was pipped at the finish line  but given the same time as the winner.

Other notable Pendle performances came from the two Matthew’s , Barnes and Dutton. Other Pendle AC athletes competing for Burnley, Ribble Valley and Blackburn were Helena Leathley (1500 Steeplechase 2nd), Amy Moran (300m 3rd), Thomas Marchant, Tiernan Crorken and Jordan Leeming who ran a fantastic 200m to finish 4th (if it’s any consolation his sister and myself thought he was 2nd).

A number of Club athletes competed in this event at Witton Park.  Richard Marchant has sent some photos, click on them to see a larger picture.  I haven’t seen any results and don’t know where they will appear.

It was a pleasant day at Longford Park attracting many of the area’s best young athletes, which included three from Pendle.

Gregan, Natrika and Leah were in the thick of the competition in the field events at Trafford with Gregan coming 2nd in the Javelin, throwing 24.67m although hurting his throwing arm in the process. Leah achievements included 1st and two 2nd’s in her throws gaining a PB in the Discus of 26.23m and Natrika jumped a PB of 4.86m in the Long Jump.

A great day out was had at the Coniston Gullies race although it was very hot.  A barbeque on the lake side afterwards was attended by getting for 80 people.

Tomorrow is Kirkby Gala which is a Bofra champs race.  Athletes and families have been invited to stay for the village hog roast, live band and fireworks as part of the jubilee celebrations.

Next Sunday is Kettlewell fell race which with a crossing of the river Wharfe is geeat fun for kids during and after the races.

On Thursday this week is Killington Sports.  Whilst a reasonable drive it’s a great, old fashioned night out during half term at a traditional Lakeland Sports.  These events go back to the 19th century and pre-date amateur athletics – watch out for the handicapping!  A number of Pendle families normally make the journey and the kids win lots of money in flat races as well as running the fell race.
