Young athlete  and Intermediate groups are cancelled tonight.  I haven’t heard from other coaches but would assume that they are also cancelling due to the snow on the track

UPDATE 17:40  The young athlete group is going ahead at Fisher More tonight.  The intermediate group at the track is cancelled and it’s likely (but not confirmed) that the other track squads will also be cancelled.  The track is still covered in snow.

UPDATE 16:00.  The intermediate group at the track is definitely CANCELLED tonight.  The track is covered in snow and it is going to freeze.   In addition a lorry has overturned near Nelson and Colne College.

Training may be cancelled tonight due to the snow.  This includes the young athletes group at Fisher More.

At the moment at least two of the coaches cannot move their cars.

This site and facebook will be updated later this afternoon.  Please ask others to check as well.

Pictures up on the club facebook site.

MID LANCS XC AT HYNDBURN

SATURDAY 12.1.13

Last Saturday saw a gruelling race for everyone, battling in heavy sticky mud added to cold, fresh but fine weather.  I was surprised that there were not more shoes that were lost to the mud – all thanks to the parents who tied them securely!

The races started brilliantly with an outstanding run from Ruby Schofield who finished in 6th position in a field of 42 U11 girls.

Our next representatives were the U13 boys who saw Kai Atkins coming in strongly in 9th place followed by a great run from Gregan Baker in 17th position closely followed by a good run from Jacob VanGeffen and completing the team for Pendle saw Harvey VanGeffen coming in in 40th position with a big smile on his face as always!.  The team finished in 3rd position behind Preston Harriers and Rossendale Harriers.  Joe Lonsdale unfortunately, having got off to a flying sprint start, had to pull out due to a problem with his hamstring.  Hopefully he will be fully fit before the next Mid Lancs XC at Lancaster.

The U15 girls saw Adele Ogden having a brilliant run finishing in 16th place, Natrika Wildman having a great run finishing in 17th place and Kate Pritchard making her debut – all credit to Kate – it was a difficult race but she survived and finished in 20thposition – brilliant running Kate.  If only we could find another U15 girl – then we would have a girls team at last – come on Leah put your spear down for a week and don your running shoes !!

The U15 boys finished in 2nd place in the teams with a strong run from Matty Barnes finishing in 6th position closely followed by James Marchant in 8th position.  Next we saw an excellent run from Jordan Isherwood finishing in 20th position and Luke Thompson running strongly finishing closely behind Jordan in 24th position.  Congratulations to you all. Unfortunately Tiarnan Crorken started but had to pull out, I am not sure why but he has not been well over the Christmas period – get well soon Tiarnan.

The U17 boys again had strong runs from Darius Boardman closely followed by Matthew Dutton finishing in 7th & 8th position respectively – well done.  Josh Ingham again had a great run in sticky dodgy conditions finishing in 17th position with Neng Wildman hot on his heels finishing in 18th position – brilliant running. The U17 boys finishing in 2nd position.

Finally, our ladies, Janet Barnes and Faye Holden had a fabulous run surviving the difficult conditions and the 224 Senior Men who were let loose before they had finished !  Janet came home in 95th position with a smile on her face and Faye closely behind in 99th position.

There are two Mid Lancs Cross Countries left now, the next is at Lancaster on Saturday 9th February – hope to see you all there again !

Mid Lancs Cross Country League

In the Mid Lancs League the U11 races are used as an introduction to cross country and athletes are not eligible for awards at the end of the season.  There is not an 8 year old restriction as in the Red Rose League and Dawn, who organizes the league is happy for younger athletes to run if parents  feel  their  child will enjoy the run (see your child’s coach if you are uncertain).   Under 11 athletes do not have to wear a club vest but if there are any spare from our ‘loan stock’ they can borrow one.   Alternatively, they can also purchase their own club vest.  See Daemon down at the track.

The next Mid Lancs. cross country fixture is this Saturday, 15 January at Wilson Playing Fields, Hyndburn – a short distance to travel.   The U11 races are the first races of the day so you will have the option to go after your race or perhaps stay and watch older athletes from the club compete.

Lancashire Cross Country Championships

Witton Park, Blackburn on Saturday 5th January 2013

Last Saturday a handful of Pendle Runners took part in the Lancashire Cross Country

Championships at Witton Park, Blackburn.

The weather was excellent and ideal for running – dry and not too cold but again was very muddy underfoot which made the going heavy.

Several Pendle members have been suffering over the Christmas period from the

‘Boomerang Bugs’ that have been wiping people out so our numbers were a little more depleted than normal.  We hope that everyone gets well soon!

Nevertheless we had some brilliant runs from the members who represented our Club last Saturday.

Alex Baker and Ella Atkins had excellent runs in a strong field of U11 Girls finishing 28th and 35th respectively – well done to you both for taking part.  Unfortunately Ruby had just returned from holiday so was unable to participate.

Our next race was the U13 Boys who were unfortunately lacking a fourth team member otherwise they would have been in a strong position for receiving a medal.

Kai Atkins, once again, ran strongly and finished in 11th position with Gregan Baker finishing in 18th and Timmy Barnes in 32nd place – well done to you all.

For the U15 Boys we had fantastic runs from Matthew Barnes and James Marchant who qualified in 5th and 6th position to run for the Lancashire XC team.  This will take place at Birmingham in March and will be televised by Sky – so – make sure you are watching !

Luke and Matthew Thompson had strong runs finishing in 24th and 26th respectively gaining the U15 Boys team the Silver Medal overall – well done to Matthew, James, Luke and Matthew – you deserved it.

Our next runners were the U7 Men. Our Pendle representatives were Darius Boardman and Josh Ingham. Both ran exceptionally well in the muddy conditions with Josh looking stronger after every race he does – well done Josh.

Anna Anderson ran in the senior women and had a brilliant running coming 12th.  Finally, Faye completed our line up coming home in 50th position in the Senior Women – well done Faye.

Our next Cross Country Fixture is next Saturday (12th January) which is a Mid Lancs Fixture at Hyndburn, Wilson Playing Fields – we hope to see all of you there.  Hopefully Thomas and Tiarnan will then be fully recovered!

ENGLAND ATHLETICS – MEMBERSHIP CONSULTATION
Statement from England Athletics Chair, Peter King, and Chief Executive, Chris Jones on behalf of the Board of England Athletics.

We write to you on behalf of the board of England Athletics to provide information, as promised, relating to affiliation fees that will take effect from 1st April 2013.
Following what we recognise to be an inadequate consultation process regarding affiliation we set up the three regional meetings and facilitated emailed submissions to hear views about this and the general concerns over consultation and representation in our sport.
We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to make their views and constructive contributions known to us over recent weeks at meetings, via email and by post. This reflects an incredible dedication to the sport by so many. We have taken these comments, views and opinions seriously. We are grateful for the way so many people have, in turn, been receptive to hearing what we have had to say about the challenges, in terms of budgets and provision, our sport faces as we look to the coming years, and how we must work together to address them.
Sport England this week announced their plans for funding for 2013-17. You can read more about this at www.englandathletics.org/wsp2013 [1]
Sport England funding is allocated for specific areas of work that are ring fenced and will support our delivery in these areas. Because it is allocated for specific uses this funding cannot be transferred for use elsewhere. For example £8.8m is allocated to bringing more people into recreational running. We will continue to work with UKA to identify new sources of commercial revenue but, at present, there is not the level of commercial funding available that there has been in the past.
Based on consideration of all the comments received we have made the following decisions. For the affiliation year commencing 1st April 2013 the following will apply:
* ALL INDIVIDUAL ATHLETES WILL PAY A FLAT FEE OF £10 IRRESPECTIVE OF AGE OR DISCIPLINE. (THE £10 FEE WILL ALSO APPLY TO THE OPTIONAL UNDER 11S SCHEME. DETAILS ON THE BENEFITS PACK FOR THIS SCHEME WILL BE COMMUNICATED IN THE NEW YEAR.)
* The club and affiliated bodies registration fee will remain at £50.
* The processes for clubs to affiliate and register athletes will be as in the current year.
* UPGRADES TO THE ‘TRINITY’ MEMBER PORTAL FOR CLUBS AND ATHLETES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO MAKE IT MORE ‘USER FRIENDLY’. WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE GIVEN SPECIFIC INPUT ON THIS MATTER.
In coming to the above decision, we have been through a challenging process. This has made us clearly aware that, amongst other things, we need to review our approach to consultation and the democratic system of England Athletics that helps to shape and inform decision making. With this in mind we will carry out further consultation with member clubs during 2013 which will include consultation around plans for affiliation and membership in the future. This will include the following:
* How we provide best value to members,
* How we achieve further cost savings,
* How we continue to provide and safeguard the services the sport values most.
Details will be provided in due course, with the first meetings likely to be in early 2013.
A number of themes outside of affiliation fees were also raised through the recent consultation:
* Desire for increased communication, consultation and engagement with the sport around membership and the wider work of EA (including costs and funding of delivery)
* Earlier communication regarding any proposed change
* Desire for any fee increases to be gradual, phased in and/ or subject to greater notice
* Need for improvements to the Trinity membership portal to help volunteers in clubs
* That the more athletes that clubs register the lower the price can be per athlete

* There were very mixed views on whether affiliation should be through the club or individual which require further discussion.
In 2013 we will be looking at ways in which we can strengthen the democratic processes of England Athletics. With this in mind we would like to continue the discussions on Regional Councils and how they can be more effectively utilised. At this time that means making them as representative as possible and capable of both sending ideas and comments up to the National Council and the Board, and being a strong conduit back from the Board and National Council to Clubs for consultation and information purposes. Nominations for the forthcoming elections will shortly open and we will be sending nomination forms to clubs as well as making them available at www.englandathletics.org/elections.
At the consultation meetings we committed to transparency, this included a commitment to making information on comments and views given at the meetings available on the website. These are available at www.englandathletics.org/membership2013 [2].
We apologise for relaying this information to you late in December but have sought to act as swiftly as possible after the final consultation meeting and closing of online submissions. We are therefore contacting club secretaries by email where possible, posting information and placing information on the England Athletics website at www.englandathletics.org [3].
Yours Sincerely,
Peter King, Chair, England Athletics
Chris Jones, Chief Executive, England Athletics

Red Rose XC Leverhulme Park Bolton 15th Dec  2012
Pendle cross country runners were out on a difficult, sodden and boggy  course at Leverhulme Park Bolton for the last of the Red Rose Cross Country  League fixtures.
It was a difficult course under foot, due to the overnight rain and the  sudden rise in temperature, making it heavy going under foot.  Needless to  say, the Pendle runners made short work of it, with all the runners putting  in tremendous performances and achieving some great results.
First off for Pendle were Ruby Schofield and Ella Atkins in the U11 Girls  race. They came 16th and 38th respectively with a strong finish from  both girls.
Next to go Pendle were the U13 boys who had to negotiate one large loop and  the boys did not disappoint with fantastic performances on a demanding  course.  Kai Atkins led the Pendle lads home with a strong run coming in  4th,  closely followed by, with his best performance in the Red Rose  fixtures,  Joe Lonsdale who come in 7th position.  Then not so far  behind again were Jacob VanGeffen coming in 17th followed by Gregan Baker who  was pipped on the line by Jacob after a fantastic sprint finish. Then if  that wasn’t exciting enough finish, the next battle was between Timmy Barnes and  Harry Schofield with Timmy just taking it from Harry coming in 23rd and 24th.  So, some really good, exciting racing there and it looks like the U13 Boys, for  their tremendous efforts over the series of races in the Red Rose League, have  picked up the Bronze Team Medal but this has to be officially confirmed  yet.
Not to be out done the U15 Boys ran next in the form of Matthew Barnes,  James Marchant, Tiarnan Crorken and Tom Marchant.  What an outstanding race  this turned out to be with all 4 runners putting in fine performances.   Matty and James went straight out to the front with James Wardle from Leigh  Harriers to make a little break away group, followed closely by Tiarnan in the  next group with Thomas just behind. After the first large lap Matty and James  pulled away  to make about a 10 second gap between the rest of the field to  start the second lap.  There was no way any one was going to catch these  two, they worked together as a team and crossed the line together, arm in  arm, to take joint first position.  They were then followed shortly by  Tiarnan and Thomas who showed great support for their team mates coming in 11th  and 12th respectively.  This support by Tiarnan and Thomas meant that  Pendle AC U15 Boys team won the team prize on the day and won the U15 Boys Team  Gold award over the whole series of races, but again this has to be officially  confirmed.  Well done lads great effort.
Last but not least Josh Ingham was out racing in the U17 race  and finished strongly in 21st Position. Also in the  same race were the senior ladies in the form of Janet and Faye who  also put in good performances for Pendle.
Well done to all those athletes involved today on all your great  performances.
Richard Marchant
